Off to the Matrix

The TG crowd at the Matrix Filmore seems to be getting bigger. Last week was the largest ever - it felt like we "owned the place". I will be going out there later tonight. The bar is on Filmore Street near Lombard Ave and things get started around 10PM.

Melinda (the organizer) describes the scene as follows:

matrix fillmore is this hip new bar in the marina. it's very
comfortable with a beautiful fireplace in the center and lots of comfortable
seating. the djs are very good but there's no dance floor. at least not yet.
we're still lobbying for that! people often dance anyway. it's mostly a yuppie
hangout but we've carved a space for the tg community there and are always well
received. we now have excellent relations with the staff. the crowd tends to
warm up to us quite nicely as the evening progresses. we come away with juicy
stories more often than not and always have a good time.

Let me (Jamie) know if you want to go, or want me to pass your email on to Melinda.

Lannie Is Doing Fine

My friend Lannie Rose is continuing to recover from her Genital Repurposing Surgery. I was able to visit with her this morning and can report that her wicked sense of humor is back! Lannie has been out dancing with our group twice now, although she can't "party till dawn" yet.

Life in Chaos

We are doing major repairs on our house, fondly called Fentonia. This week the roofers did a splendid job of replacing the shake shingles with composite ones. The painters are about half way done spiffing up the interior. Next its the floors and the kitchen.

Cheap Trick at the Stud on Friday PM

The following description is from the Bars to Clubs website. Rys, Michelle, and I went to this last night and had a great time dancing. This club is just starting, and is not as crowded as Trannyshack, although the music is similar. It has a diferent decor arrangement, with plenty of places to sit down. The crowd was gay/mixed. Best of all, all trannies get in free! Lets hope that the idea catches on everywhere!

Cheap Trick - 399 9th St. - 415-252-7883

Includes: 1 pool table, 3 pinballs, 3 video games, 1
dance floor with live DJ.

Music: Electro, Indie, Oldschool, Funk, Pop, Rock.

Clientele is mainly gay men 21-35 years of age

This is a medium size club.

Hours: 10pm -2am Friday nights (might go later)

Tips for clubbers

The PM Gotham web site has an article by Gil T. Pleasure on how to get into and have fun at a New York dance club. Sex and the City fans have seen Carrie and Company deal with this issue, and the advice Gil gives sounds like it will work anywhere.

Did you ever hear about a GREAT club with THE best dj and a WILD crowd then when you arrived were required to stand on line for over an hour only to be subjected to a full body-cavity search by the style matron who reluctantly lets you pass "just this once"? Upon forking over the $25 cover to gain entry were you then greeted by all the same faces that you just saw last weekend in your local club, just a hundred times as many, all herded into a hollow warehouse? Did the bar staff treat you as if you'd just confessed an undying love of the king of twangy country music, Conway Twitty, when you asked for a drink?

No? Well, you're in the minority! Many novices to the club world use the shot in the dark method, or the "he said/she said" method of picking a party spot for the weekend. The Divine Guiding Wisdom of the Universe, which in the interest of brevity I'll henceforth refer to as The Goddess, has seen fit to give us only one weekend per week, so don't waste it! You only need to make a couple of phone calls to insure a night to remember or better yet a night you'll never forget!

In a nutshell - think like Samantha and network with the promoter. Bring a few friends and show up earlier.
