The TGSF 2003 Cotillion was held last weekend.
Needless to say, I had a grand time.

Friday evening, Rys, Katie, and I met for dinner and then went to the Temple of Atonement/Wicked City party. This was a joint party of two groups of Gothic/BDSM/Fetish denizens. As always, the people watching opprotunities were compelling - generally everyone has to be in some sort of costume to get in, generally defined as "You can't wear it out on the street in daylight". There were two "play spaces" upstairs, emminating whip cracks and moans. The only flaw was that the bar lost carbonation and was understaffed. They did compensate by mixing the available drinks strong.

Saturday I came back to San Jose for a bit, to catch up on my sysadmin chores. I returned Saturday evening with my film cameras in tow to take photos of the Cotillion event proper. The TGSF Cotillion is a transgender beauty contest, featuring the typical active wear, talent, evening wear, and final question formulae from the Miss America Pageant. (I was a contestant in 2000 and won Miss Congeniality). One of the contestants this year was an FTM, Tyler, who was later crowned "Mr. TGSF 2003". Rachael Hill won the Miss TGSF 2003 title.

After the show, Katie, Rys, and I went to the DNA Lounge for "New Wave City - A Tribute to New Wave Gender Benders". I had been in contact with the promoters earlier, and we brought a gang of TGs over for the event. The crowd was large, and unfortunately the club was hot and humid. Some of the girls loved it and some did not - it takes courage and experience to boldly fit in with a group of straight people. I was one of the "loved it" gals. Katie, Rys, Elaine, and I left in time to catch the last hour at Marlena's, and then we hit the after-party on the 26th floor of the Holiday Inn on Van Ness. I shut that one down too.

Sunday I scraped myself out of bed and Katie and I attended the "Post Cotillion Brunch" at the Blue Muse. Then it was on home to confront two dead internet servers and the real world again. That evening I uploaded the first round of photos for the TGSF Channel Editor, Ayme Kantz. You can see them by visiting this link.

I love the word Tranny

People have been trying to come up with a good word for someone who is transgendered for years. Some of the words that have been used include transvestite, cross-dresser, eonist, femmaphile, femme, she-male, transsexual, and now transgender. While the word transgender currently denotes a broad inclusive category, that word is burdened by a conflict with its earlier, more specific meaning of "a person who is living life entirely in a gender diferent from the one at presumed at birth". Moreover, some transsexuals who don't like having the word "sex" in the title, want transgender to mean just them. Feminists have also been eager to substitute "gender" for "sex" for the same reason.

I first noticed the word tranny in an Australian slang dictionary in 1992. It has traveled here from the British Commonwealth in recent years. Like the word gay, tranny has an euphonious sound that conveys the fun that we can have.

So while I am a cross-dresser, a transsexual, and a transgender, I am most of all a tranny!

...and I will keep on dancing!

I would enjoy going to this, particularly with Alisa Lee -
Kindred Spirts
April 10 - 13 (Thurs. eve - Sunday) TRANSGENDER ARTISTS RETREAT facilitated by Holly Boswell

Transgender artists of every kind are invited to gather and "show and tell" what they are doing. Creative visions and methods will be shared among peers, as well as constructive critiquing. We will explore issues such as: What makes Trans art unique? How can we empower each other, and build a support network? How can we find or develop our audience or market? How can we re-establish an artistic career in our new gender? And what are the possibilities for collaboration?

Registration deadline: Feb. 27
Cost: $ 200

Dish's Retirement Party
Our group of tranny gals descended on the good people of Santa Cruz yesterday, joining a celebration of the retirement from US Postal Service of Dish. Dish, also known as Dennis, is a Santa Cruz legend. Dennis worked as a letter carrier, and formed deep friendships with everyone on his route. On Halloween, he would go out as his feminine self Dish delivering the mail. Dish is an outrageous transvestite prone to B-52 hair, leopardskin miniskirts, and 5" CFM heels. She also showers the world with graphic art objects of her own creation. I have several of her refrigerator magnets which I cherish.

The party drew a fascinating cross-section of Santa Cruz, including representatives of the local press. We knew many of the women there from Dish's annual birthday/holiday party and everyone warmed to the TG Party Girls quickly. The live band was Road Hog and played several great dance sets. Dance I did.

Dishes graphics art business is called Bouffant Productions, PO Box 2703, Santa Cruz, CA 95063.

Dancing with the Lesbians A long-time favorite girls night in San Franisco has been the G-Spot. It was at the EndUp on Saturdays for years. Recently the promoter bought her own venue, Cherry Bar, on Folsom.

ClubSkirts - Cherry Bar and Lounge Schedule
917 Folsom Street, San Francisco. Ph: 415-974-1585

Lannie and I have been there and we recommend it.

TGs have always gotten along pretty well at this club. My friend, the fabulous Tianna DeVil, was a legend in her hot fetish outfits. Most of the TG gals who go regularly tend to dress "femme lesbian", a comfortable dancing skirt or pants. The typical TV hyperslut look does not fit in as well.

I always hit this club early and dance. Music is progressive house and hip-hop - and the DJs blend it well. Just the thing for sexual dancing.

G-Spot (the Saturday night event) is particularly nice for cute lipstick lesbians.

Jamie Faye makes a new friend. I often go out to Trannyshack in San Francisco. Its held at the Stud, 9th Street and Harrison in the SOMA district. The Stud is usually a leather bar - but a crew of drag queens takes the place over on Tuesday and holds a show at midnight.

Trannyshack is also a regular meeting of the more outrageous transgender people in the Bay Area. The TGs tend to show up earlier and tend to leave earlier. This last Tuesday I had a chance to meet an attractive TG gal who I had be noticing from afar the last several weeks. We hit it off, to say the least, and now I have a new love interest! She is an extremely active blogger and I am waiting to see what she says about me! When she goes public, so will I.

The Reality Condom I just discovered these. The Female Health Company (FHC) is the maker of FC Female Condom® — the first and only female-initiated barrier method of contraception and disease prevention.

FHC was created as a worldwide company in February 1996 with the purchase of Chartex Resources Ltd., the holder of exclusive worldwide rights to FC. FHC is the sole manufacturer and marketer of FC in the world. FHC manufacturers all FCs in a state-of-the-art facility in London, England.

While they are marketed to genetic females for conventional intercourse, they also work rather well for anyone serving as the receptive partner in anal sex. (I am not the first person to think of this by far - this "off-label" use is well known in the GLBT community).

For trannies, they have several incredible advantages. First, you can put it in while you are preparing to go out, rather than waiting for the hectic time when passions are hot. Second, you can use it with yourself for exploration and masturbation - your sex toys stay clean and you would never know it was there from the sensations!

They do cost $3-$4 each and are single use (unless you use a particular unit on yourself only, in which case you can re-use them).
